The club formed by Sam Johnson in 2007 brought together a group of friends to play in the WBL on a casual basis. This ended up becoming quite competitive and brought us some memorable wins and prompted us to enter some other small tournaments which also brought some success most notably beating the all-star team at the EVOY Ballers tournament in the summer of 2008. With the help of the Winchester Club we have been able to turn the Southsiders into a competitive outfit bringing in players from around the leagues including some excellent young talent.

The Southsiders gained promotion to Solent League division 2 after finishing their division 3 season with an 11-5 record as well as making it to the Solent Intermediate Cup final.

Player Profiles

Sacha Singaravaloo G/F - Sacha is the old head of the team. At the peak of his career playing national league division 1 for Solent Stars now uses his experience playing assisting coaching and chipping in off the bench with his cool head and good range of passing.

Liam Dell F - Liam one of the founder members of the team is enjoying one of his best years in basketball after also recently joining Solent University. A product of the Southampton Trailblazers junior program, Liam isn’t a pure post player possessing a limited post game but with a better range of shooting than most at his position.

Elliot Hood C/F - Elliot one of our crop of new players for the coming season is a proven big man at junior national league level. Though not the strongest Elliot has the athleticism to pull down the boards

Dave Mead G - The experienced pg joins the Southsiders after several seasons playing around the SABA League. Dave originally a product of the blazers program brings some needed experience to the team. On his day is probably our best all round player. Tough on both ends of the court and can score when needed

Richard Mann  G - Free shooting rich joins the Squad whilst also representing Barton Pevril College and Trailblazers under 18’s. A proficient long and mid range shooter rich has good court vision and is able to play the game at a tenacious pace. Though due to smaller stature struggles taking it to the hole.

Iain Molyneux-Dicks G - Iain joined the Siders from the Trailblazers under 18’s. With a consistent three point shot and strong work ethic Iain is tipped to be a top player in the near future as he adds more to the game. With his game fuelled emotionally can be a little erratic but when he channels this he can be a strong player particularly on defence.

Rob De Ath C/F - Rob another of our old heads is our most obvious out and out big man. A very strong and a tough re-bounder on both ends of the floor.   Though his legs are not what they once were Rob has retained hit trade mark bank shot which he always turns to to find some form.

Richard Smithson F - The former Solent Junior Richard is an undersized forward who boasts some excellent fundamentals. Rich has some nice post moves but is comfortable putting the ball on the floor and creating play so fits in well at any point of an offence.

Peter Horsley C - Another Product of the Blazers Junior set up Peter is un-orthodox Centre who at times seem awkward is very strong and frustrating to play against. Tough on the boards Pete is physical and can be relied on to scrap and do the dirty work when needed.

Mark Lewis G

The flashy guard joins the team with a wealth of SABA experience. Also a tough defender mark is able to shoot the three and get to the hole with his nice handles. scoring ability and experience far out way his faults.

Chris Hall F - Founding member of the squad with an eye for the three and a range of inside hook shots is able to scrap for rebounds using size and strength. Though not tall or fast can be effective due to being easy to over looked by opponents. Tends to contribute in small bursts and works hard to keep the team together

Sam Johnson G - The founding team member has re joined the team for the end of the 08/89 Season after finding some court time with the Guildford Heat 2nd Team. Has made a positive impact on his return and is looking forward to summer league.

Fabien Orahm C/F - Centre that joined the team midway through the season due to illness has been an enormous addition to the team with his rebounding and energy, formerly of Southampton Solent University has stepped in adequately to replace Matt Godfrey.

Martin Lavender G - Former Solent junior and Southampton Institute Guard has proven a welcome addition to the squad with his good ball handling and tough defence. Has proved a useful weapon off the bench this year.

John Salmon C/F - Veteran big man formerly of Solent University and Southampton Trailblazers has brought a much needed inside presence under the basket. As an adaptable big man john proves useful in a range of match ups.

Dave Horsley F - Brother of Pete has joined up with the team for the summer after plying his trade for Chichester University brings bags of energy to the summer league squad.

Past Southsiders

Gedrius - Former Lithuanian Pro, played sporadically for the club during their WBL days. Tremendous scorer in all aspects of the game and with huge ups provided some highlight dunks and blocks to go with the shooting displays.

John Wilkins - The big centre was a massive plus for the Southsiders during their WBL campaign. The powerful big man was influential and provided the presence needed to let the guards do their thing to enable. Missed this season due to previous club commitments at Whitley still a popular figure with our players.

Ben Radford G/F - Another of our founding members Ben has demonstrated a good ability to score and create play and is probably the most adaptable of the Southsiders squad being able to fill all 5 spots. Ben re-joined the team this season after time spent playing stateside.

Matt Godfrey F - Matt joins the squad from playing seasons with Solent Stars and the Portsmouth Smugglers in the National League. Matt is more comfortable dropping long range shots or mid range shots off the drive than playing in the post which his height suggests.
