Games vs the Navy and Navy u23s

Winchester City sent a team to HMS Nelson in Portsmouth on Saturday 27 Feb to play 2 straight games against the Royal Navy U23s and Royal Navy mens teams. The first game against the u23s started off tight as the Navy matched Winchesters inside scoring with accurate long range shooting. Winchester Came out on top in the 1st by 17-16. The second quarter followed a similar pattern as Big O, Thom Parker, Ian, Gillies, Squires and Louie scored consistentantly on the inside while the Navy's ran a play that ended up with a jump shot from the corner that they made fairly regularly. 7 minutes into the third quarter with City up 52-42, City began a devistating run that helped them run away with the game, they outscored the Navy U23s 40-6 as they struggled to cope with the triangle and 2 defence. Gillies finished the game as top scorer on 19 points which included a nice dunk as he made a move along the baseline helping Winchester to a 92-48 win. WCBC scorers  - Gillies 19, Squires 13, Pickering 12, Paddington 11, Parker 11, McDonald 8, Good 7, Attwood 6, Hannah 3, Vaughan 2.

The second game started 30 minutes after the previous game ended. WCBC came out a bit sluggish to start the game and ended the first quarter 19-11 down. Winchester were 10 points adrift at the half and fell 18 down at the end of 3 quarters. Winchester changed the defence up to start the 4th and managed to slowly claw back the Navy's lead. Between the 6-8 minute of the fourth quarter Winchester bought the score back from 66-53 to 66-62, thanks to increased pressure on the Navys ball handlers. However the Navy called a timeout to 'steady the ship' and this combined with more missed Winchester layups helped the Navy close out the game 70-64. Scorers - Gillies 15, Hannah 11, McDonald 9, Paddington 9, Parker 8 Vaughan 5, Squires 4, Attwood 3

Winchester have been asked to get a team together again as part of the Navys training week on 20 April at HMS Nelson again 2015 tip off. Let me know if you are interested in representing the club. Cheers Rich

Charity Match Money £110

Recieved this email from Rob Deyzel in Uganda -

Hey mate hows you? Its 28 degrees and sunny as I type this email. 6 months away now!

OK the money was awesome! What we spent it on: some of the money went on allowing our 2 football teams to compete in football comp in Kajjansi with which we came second. The money paid for accommodation and food and transport for a week for the 40 kids and staff!

The remainder I used to buy some basketballs and enable the use of a court we can hire.

Thanks to all you guys.

Rob
