Welcome to Winchester City Basketball Club.
As a club we aim to bring together people from the Winchester area, who love the game of basketball. We have lots to offer everyone, from players who wish to learn more about the game and develop their skills, to those looking for the opportunity to play competitive team basketball at a high standard. There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved with coaching, officiating and many other areas of the game!
The club itself consists of three mens teams - Wasps, Wizards and the Warriors and a womens team - the Panthers. We also run junior sessions and teams that compete in the local area Central Venue League.
All these teams play at local league level.
The Wasps are the clubs first team and have just completed their 3rd season in the Solent League. Having gained successive promotions to division 2 then division 1 the team finished with a 6-8 record in their first season in the top flight. The Wasps will look to do better in their 2011/12 division 1 campaign.
The Wizards have just completed their fourth season, their 2nd season in Solent League Division Two after finishing runners up in division three in 2008/09. The Wizards will compete in Solent League division 3 for the 2011/12 season.
The Kings won the division in their first season in Division 3 of the Wessex League and also finished as Wessex Plate runners up in 2010-11. The club had to pull out of the Wessex league for the 2011-12 season.
With the Kings dropping out of the Wessex League it has opened the way for Winchester to enter a 3rd team into the Solent League division 4. The team will take on Winchester Citys original team name of the Warriors.
The Panthers competed well in Wessex womens basketball league in their first season, gaining a division 1 place before Christmas, where they finished mid table and they also won the Womens Wessex Plate in 2010-11.
Due to the high level of interest and the quality of player in the club, a team has entered into the Men's Founders Cup in the past. This national competition allows players to test their skills against teams from outside their local area. Winchester just missed out on qualifying for the knock out stages in 2009/10 after winning 2 and losing 4 games.
The club prides itself on its friendly but competitive approach to basketball and strives to promote the sport around Winchester. Please feel free to contact us about the basketball opportunities it offers and use the site to get to know the club and its members better. You can find our fixtures on the fixtures and results page so please come down and cheer us on!
Thank you.
